What is Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage is a type of massage therapy used to treat certain muscular-skeletal problems and complaints using a particular set of techniques and strokes. It should not be confused with “deep pressure” massage, administered with prolonged strong, sometimes severe pressure during a full-body session without addressing a particular problem. Deep tissue massage involves the application of pressure to both the superficial and deep layers of muscles, fascia, and other tissues. Because of the purposeful, concentrated labor, the sessions are often reasonably intense. When a customer requests a massage and specifies “deep tissue,” he or she usually looks for a full-body treatment with maintained deep pressure throughout. Deep tissue treatments on the whole body in one session would be very hard; it might damage or isolate muscle and nerve stress, making the session ineffective.
